THE GOLD STANDARD
IMPACT SWANSEA
Here at Stone Sign Company, we were pleased to be given the opportunity to create a commemorative plaque marking the opening of the new IMPACT centre in Swansea university.
The Innovative Materials, Processing & Numerical Technologies (IMPACT) centre is a brand-new materials and engineering research facility that has opened in the College of Engineering in Swansea Bay.
It has been created to cater for collaborative research projects between industry and academia, and will target five core research areas including the future of manufacturing and data-centric engineering.
The centre was officially opened on the 6th February by the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford AM.
To celebrate the opening of this state-of-the-art institute, Stone Sign created a bespoke memorial plaque that was unveiled by the First Minister in the central atrium of the building.
We wanted to provide a plaque that would appropriately mark the occasion, so we decided to use locally sourced high-quality Welsh Slate to create the sign. The commemorative plaque was given a clean-edged finish and engraved by our expert stonemasons with a gilded inscription in a striking gold leaf.
It was supplied with faceless fixings to provide a neat finish when it is adorned.
Mark Drakeford unveiled the slate plaque in a special opening ceremony to mark the official launch of the facility, after which guests were invited to interact with the IMPACT research projects. They were able to learn more about recent developments in robotics and Artificial Intelligence while touring the new centre.
The whole of the Stone Sign team were proud to have been a part of this momentous occasion, and are excited to see what new developments come from the new IMPACT centre.
